MAGNT Meeting Saturday, February 10, 2007 10 AM to noon Unity South Church7950 First Ave. So. Bloomington, 55420
Angels on the Head of a Pin? ... Or Life vs. Death?
When considering the history of ideas on planet Earth, there is a temptation to characterize that saga as a series of intense preoccupations with and disputations concerning questions that are either irrelevant or irresolvable. Is there really any point, for example, in trying to prove the existence of a supreme being? And is anyone losing sleep lately over the question as to whether the pineal gland is, as Rene Descartes claimed, the connecting link between the body and the soul?
And yet... is it really true that what we think doesn't matter? Or do our beliefs -- usually unexamined and frequently unconscious -- impact on the ways we rejoice, the ways we grieve, the ways we strive, the ways we hate, and the ways we love? And is there significance in the fact that we sometimes describe a person as being out of her or his mind when we intend to question that individual's sanity?
Through conversation and experiential exercises, we will explore these and related questions as we irreverently and undisputationally mind our minds.
February’s facilitator, Ira L. Gordon, is a former chair of the department of philosophy at Dowling College in Oakdale, New York and, someone for whom, on his good days, thinking is a safe and invigorating form of recreation.
Saturday MAGNT meetings are free and open to the public. No need to pre-register. Just come and be warmly included. MAGNT, the Minnesota chapter of the Association for Global New Thought, offers activities to expand consciousness. Its purpose is to inspire, inform and empower people to create an awakened world. MAGNT is supported by local Unity and Religious Science churches.
