On
October 24-25, 2003, Noetic Marketplace, a community group affiliated
with the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) in California, and
Minnesota Association of Global New Thought (MAGNT) co-sponsored a
lecture and workshop presented by Chris Bache. Professor Bache is the
former Director of Transformative Learning at IONS. A Professor of
Philosophy and Religious Studies at Youngstown State University in Ohio.
Professor Bache has taught for 23 years. The event was called
Rebirth and the Dynamics of Soul, and it explored the workings of the
Soul from a perspective of reincarnation.
The
event was not a conventional discussion of the topic of reincarnation.
It did not focus on the question of whether reincarnation occurs
or on the mechanics of recurrent lives, as such discussions so often
seem to do. Rather, it was an inquiry into the purpose and meaning of
the Soul’s trajectory through time, into what the Soul is intended to
accomplish with its many incarnations. Professor Bache’s talk was an
effort to sensitize the audience to the presence of Soul inside and
surrounding their current lives, and to help them develop a feeling for
the cycle of transformation that is the life of the Soul.
The
audience was challenged to consider why a Soul is given so much time and
so many incarnations to achieve its spiritual goal,
and why it must make so many, often arduous passages |

through life. It was invited to become more aware of the soulful
intelligence that surrounds the egoic mind. Professor Bache noted that: “If we are to
rise to the challenges of the 21st century, we need to
cultivate a perspective that is both realistic and anchored in the long
view. A deep understanding of rebirth and the workings of the soul is
essential to achieving these goals.”
Finally, in
setting forth his purpose for the lecture and the workshop, he stated as
follows:
“I want to convey a powerful sense of human beings as folded
time, as folding enormous tracts of history inside their person. I want
to awaken a feeling for the extraordinary qualities that people already
have inside them. I want to enhance their feeling for their already
considerable soul ‘weight’, for the wisdom already accumulated.
At a deeper level, I hope to stimulate a sense of the dynamics of
soul-making, the cycle of transformation, and the seasons of perpetual
renewal. I hope to reduce people’s fear of dying and increase their
sense of adventure. Lastly, I’d like to address one particular
threshold---the awakening into Oneness.”
